Achieved Microsoft MCSA: Windows 10 certification

Today I passed Pass Exam 697: Configuring Windows Devices which completes my MCSA: Windows 10 certification. I had already passed Pass Exam 698: Installing and Configuring Windows 10 through béta examination which is also a requirement for this cert.

Earners of the MCSA: Windows 10 certification have demonstrated the skills required to configure, manage, and maintain a Windows 10 enterprise system. They are qualified for a position as computer support specialist.

“Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart” (Installing Windows Server 2012 on VMware ESXi 5.0)

Preparing somewhat for the upcoming Microsoft Beta Exams (071-413, 071-414, 071-415 and 071-416) thinking I would go ahead and install Microsoft Windows Server 2012 into my testing environment which is VMWare ESXi (at the moment). I created a custom VM, removed the Floppy drive (because that seemed to be the issue not getting Windows 8 working within VMware Workstation 8). I did do some other standard stuff like selecting Windows Server 2008 (64-bit) instead of Windows Server 2008 R2 (That seemed part of the solution on Workstation). All this to no avail on VMWare ESXi 5.0.

The resolution for me was to patch the VMware ESXi 5.0 server to Build 768111 which is up to 5.0.0 Patch 7.

I like the new fun error message though … Hope it will last beyond RC level, Microsoft should do more fun stuff like this, and I don’t mean more error messages Winking smile.

Microsoft Beta Exam 71-685 Pro: Windows® 7, Enterprise Desktop Support Technician

Ok, so I attended this exam yesterday and think I did all right. I do not want to violate Microsoft’s Non Disclosure Agreement so if I’m telling you guys too much you will let me know right? 🙂

The exam consisted of 70 questions in which I think I had to guess about 22 of them. I like the number of questions on a Microsoft Beta exams. With Citrix Beta Exams can take up to 250 (!) questions. As if anyone knows what he/she is answering after question number 120. If there are that many questions on a beta exam, that means you can toss the last 150 questions out the window for sure.

Anyway, for this exam know all the new features of Microsoft Windows 7 like BitLocker, BranchCache, DirectAccess, AppLocker, Internet Explorer 8. This information and more on this exam can be found here.

I have scheduled Microsoft Beta Exam 71-686 Pro: Windows® 7, Enterprise Desktop Administrator on October 14th.

Passed: TS Microsoft Forefront Client and Server, Configuration

Fairly easy exam. Having some knowledge of MOM/SCOM has some advantage because it works on top of this product. Know how Microsoft Forefront installs/acts on Microsoft Sharepoint, Microsoft Exchange and how it interoperates with Microsoft WSUS Server.

Passed: TS Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007, Configuring

Microsoft really dropped the ball on this one, with some experience with Microsoft MOM 2005, logic thinking, common sense and a twist of lemon you are able to pass this exam.

Next exam: TS: Microsoft Forefront Client and Server, Configuration, I think this will be a nice add-on to my Microsoft Exchange 2007 and Security specialization.

I’m Dutch so we are always in for free stuff, even if we don’t do anything with it, I’m sorry, it’s a cultural thing. I’m sure you’ll understand. 🙂

Passed Microsoft Beta Exams 71-646 and 71-647!

clip_image002

I took these exams on the same day, yes it was a nice certification day, January 10th. 🙂 Although I can not recommend doing such a thing because it requires to stay focused for a considerably long time, beta exams often consists of a lot of questions. Unfortunately I did not have the the time (luxury) to plan 2 days for these exams, so … All is well, a pass is a pass, as they say. 🙂

So that just totally made my day! Don’t you just love Microsoft products? 🙂

So by passing these exams I can add two more certifications to my list:
Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP): Server Administrator
Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP): Enterprise Administrator

Curriculum Roadmap

Passed TS: MS Internet Security & Acceleration Server 2006,Configuring

60 questions / 2 hours of ISA 2006 pain ;-). No, just kidding, exam can easily be done if you work extensively with this product. Although during the exam I thought it would barely be a pass but I passed with a sweet 907.

When you implement Microsoft Infrastructures, like we do, you are bound to come across the Microsoft ISA Server 2006 product line. This exam covers a lot of stuff that you actually come across when implementing ISA Server.
